Actor Attacked When A Fan Mistook His TV Character’s Actions For Real Life

Actor Sicelo 'Seekay' Buthelezi Called 'Rap!st' by Fan Over TV Role

In the world of entertainment, some fans struggle to separate fiction from reality.

Former Gomora actor Sicelo ‘Seekay’ Buthelezi experienced this firsthand when a fan mistook his TV character’s actions for real life.

Fan Calls Seekay a ‘Rap!st’

Sicelo Buthelezi, now starring in Skeem Saam, encountered an unpleasant situation when a passionate fan called him a rap!st.

Known as Seekay, he plays Toby, a notorious character who recently assaulted his on-screen girlfriend, Ntswaki (played by Lethabo Mekoa), when she reconsidered being intimate with him.

A source close to the actor shared that Seekay was at a filling station in Joburg when an unknown man in the queue greeted him and then accused him of being a rapist, referencing his Skeem Saam role.

The source revealed that Seekay was angry but chose to walk away, understanding that his reaction could impact his career.

The source praised Seekay for his restraint, noting that he is young and has much ahead of him, especially regarding his brand.

Not the First Actor in This Situation

Seekay told ZiMoja he doesn’t want to encourage such behavior by commenting on it. “I don’t want to entertain that incident, but people must know this is just a job and not my personal character,” he said.

Seekay is not the only actor to face such issues. Former Generations actress Pamela Nomvete, who played the villain Ntsiki, was once jumped by a fan at a mall.

Nkanyiso Makhanya, who played Njeza on Uzalo, was attacked by an angry fan for his on-screen abuse of girlfriend Nosipho.

Muvhango actress Zonke Mchunu, who played Imani Nkosi, was beaten by a fan for her character’s actions but was saved by another fan.

These incidents highlight the blurred lines fans sometimes draw between actors and their on-screen personas, leading to real-life confrontations based on fictional roles.
